Using Fictional Stories as a Pathway to Science Content
“The Busy Little Squirrel”
Written for a PreK-1st audience, follow the busy little squirrel as he prepares and priorities the different needs for the changing seasons. Also, see all the animals he interacts with along the way (mouse, robin, owl, etc.).
Great for a read aloud, due to it’s grand illustrations and visible text (if reading to a group at a reading center or at the whole group carpet space).
Many probing questions could be used with this book. One that I thought of was asking students how they (and their family) prepare for winter.
