Using Fictional Stories as a Pathway to Science Content
My 3rd grade co-teaching writing class has been spending some time on academic vocabulary (more on that later), and recently our focus word was “CREATE”.
To follow-up our learning of the word “create” I created a creative create activity. π A sentence starter class book.
After an explanation and an example (mine are the cover and the first picture), the students were given:
The students needed to think through a circular object for the circle to become. Examples of what they thought of include: a watch face, the moon, the sun, a basketball, a wheel, etc. It was amazing to see what they thought of, and to read their reasons.
To finish our book I created the following page:
What object would you turn the circle into?
Have fun creating! π
