My 3rd grade co-teaching writing class has been spending some time on academic vocabulary (more on that later), and recently our focus word was “CREATE”.
To follow-up our learning of the word “create” I created a creative create activity. 🙂 A sentence starter class book.
After an explanation and an example (mine are the cover and the first picture), the students were given:
- A circle (all the same shape–I used my circle cutter and some fun paper)
- A blank piece of paper
- The sentence frame:
- ________________________, because ___________________________. After awhile I didn’t want to be a ______________________ anymore, because _______________ so I became a…
The students needed to think through a circular object for the circle to become. Examples of what they thought of include: a watch face, the moon, the sun, a basketball, a wheel, etc. It was amazing to see what they thought of, and to read their reasons.
To finish our book I created the following page:
What object would you turn the circle into?
Have fun creating! 🙂
